Itinerary and Where to Stay
Day 1: Day 1: Arrival at the Edge of the Great Rift Valley
Your trip begins at Wilson Airport in Nairobi, where you will board a morning flight toward the western side of the Masai Mara. The flight takes about forty-five minutes and lands directly at the Angama airstrip, located right on the property. A guide from the lodge will meet you there and take you on the very short drive to your tented suite. After lunch and some time to look out over the plains from the lodge’s deck, you’ll head down the winding road of the escarpment for your first game drive in the Mara Triangle. This area is known for being well-managed and less crowded, making it easier to watch the local lion prides and elephant herds without many other vehicles around. You’ll return to the lodge as the sun sets for dinner and a quiet evening on the hill.

LuxuryDay 2: Exploring the Mara Triangle
The second day is for a full exploration of the grasslands below. You’ll head out early in the morning, descending from the escarpment just as the light begins to hit the valley floor. The Mara Triangle is home to a high concentration of wildlife, including the rare black rhino and large numbers of hippos and crocodiles along the Mara River. You can take a breakfast box with you to eat out in the wild, perhaps finding a spot under a lone tree where you can watch the herds move. During the middle of the day, you’ll head back up to the lodge to avoid the heat, giving you time to rest or visit the lodge's weaving studio. In the late afternoon, you’ll go back down for another drive, tracking the big cats as they begin to stir for the night. You’ll finish the day with a meal at the lodge.

LuxuryDay 3: Walking Safari & "Out of Africa" Experience
On your third day, you have the time to enjoy a slower pace or head back out for more wildlife tracking. This is a great day to visit the specific crest of the hill where the "Out of Africa" movie poster was photographed, perhaps enjoying a private "picnic on the kopje." If you prefer to stay in the vehicle, your guide can take you to different corners of the Triangle, exploring the marshes and the riverbanks to see the various bird species and smaller predators like servals or jackals. Having this extra day means you don't have to rush through your sightings; you can sit and watch a single family of elephants for hours if you choose. You’ll spend your final evening at the lodge, looking out over the lights of the distant Maasai homesteads on the plains below.

LuxuryDay 4: Sunrise & Farewell
On the final day, you’ll have a relaxed breakfast at the lodge and take a last look at the view from your room before packing your bags and checking out. Your guide will drive you back to the Angama airstrip for your return flight to Nairobi. The flight gives you one last look at the escarpment and the winding river before you land back at Wilson Airport in the afternoon. From there, you’ll be picked up and taken to your hotel or the international airport for your flight home, ending your safari with an easy transition back to the city.

Important Information for the Flying Safari
-
Luggage Requirements: Because the flight is on a small plane, you must keep your luggage to a maximum of 15kg (33lbs) in soft-sided bags. Hard suitcases are difficult to pack into the aircraft’s cargo space.
-
The Climate: Since the lodge is located on the edge of the escarpment, it can be quite windy and cooler than the plains below, especially at night. You’ll want to have a warm jacket for the evenings and the early morning descents into the reserve.
-
The Terrain: The drive down from the lodge to the reserve floor takes about 10 to 15 minutes. It is a scenic road, but it means you are transitioning between the high views and the wildlife-rich grasslands each time you go on a drive.
-
Open Vehicles: The lodge uses open-sided 4x4 vehicles, which are excellent for photography and feeling connected to the environment, but you should bring a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun and wind.
-
Airstrip Access: Having a private airstrip right on the property means you avoid the busier public airstrips and the long drives often associated with getting to and from your flights.
